Agreed, despite foolish actions that occur in Japan, China seems incapable of taking a higher road.

Pekka seems to understand the fundamentals of the situation. Threatening to annihilate them is not going to win the Taiwanese over. Now you don't seem to understand Pekka (who truly can ), because he doesn't mention anything about Chen. Unless you meant to write China and typed Chen by mistake. That makes sense.

They're saving up for it. (We are done saving up for it ourselves ) Most countries haven't fought in a war in the past 25 years but it doesn't mean it would never happen.

China doesn't want to repair its relations with Japan because Japan provides a convenient means to fuel the nationalism that has replaced Maoism as the unifying ideology in China. It's probably a bad move for China in the long run, as they're ensuring that their most important regional rival remains firmly in the arms of their most important global rival, but the leaders in Beijing must think that using Japan as a tool for maintaining political control in the short-term is more valuable to them than pulling Japan out of the American orbit in the long-term.

That is because they are building their military so they can fight the US.

Unless you're ready to go all in, I mean really, all in. To do some backyard fighting, they will only mess up their own backyard and eventually could lose power in it, and it will cost so much it's just not worth it.

If they really start a rumble, there will be counter reaction, in possible nuke threat, China will get destroyed if they are alone. Yeah, they have lots of power, yeah they might go berzerk if pushed around, but consider this; who are they facing if they really threaten to blow some stuff up, nuke style? Basically they are facing everyone else. Not just their neighbours.

Who thinks Taiwan will submit and join the mainland if they threaten to just nuke it? It won't happen. China has lost Taiwan and it should accept it.
My Father-in-law was from Canton Prov. My wife and I had been married for 39 years before he died. One thing I learned from him, when he made up his mine about anything, there was no stopping him no matter what. He was going to do what ever it was, and did not care about consequences. BTW we still are married 41 plus.

One day China will try to take Taiwan. What we have to do is be ready when they do try.
