because some half-assed stupid international competition is more important than a 162 game season and extended playoffs HAHAHAHAHA

Indeed. That sucked. Though Korea and Japan look good. And it'll be interesting to see who gets in from Pool 2. It looks like the semis could be Asia on one side and Latin America on the other.

Can't wait for Semis and the Finals . Korea v. Japan (again) should be great. After Japan lost, Ichiro was pissed, yelled "****" and was very non-talkative. It'll be bitterly fought.

      What a great tourney!

Actually the team that didn't even make it to the 2004 Olympics probably gets credit for that. Ironically, they too were booted from competition by none other than Mexico.

But that team didn't include Major Leaguers, so not as much can be expected from them. This team had an allstar line up and did one of the most spectular underperformances of all time.

                • Nice pitchers duel between the Dominican Republic and Cuba. Dominican has one SCARY lineup. Cuba, I have no clue about, but they've done well in this tourney.

                        • It's nice to know that regardless of what happens in the sporting world, that there are always a few universal truths (like Byung-Hyun Kim being a choke artist) one can rely on.

Cuba/Japan should be one compelling matchup, especially since all signs pointed to Dominican Republic/Korea going into today...

Like Derek Jeter being overrated and A-Rod never winning a championship of any kind?
