hopefully nobody will get seriously injured playing in this silly ****ing thing
Good point. Someone could get hurt. Why don't we cancel the All Star Game as well, someone could get hurt during that. And we better cancel Hockey for the Winter olympics, someone could get hurt there too and disrupt the NHL! And we better get rid of the Pro Bowl and the Basketball event during the Summer Olympics, since someone could break a leg during that and end their career.

And while we are at it, why don't we make all the jogging tracks padded? That way in case someone falls while out for a run, they won't endanger their legs for when they truly need them.

Anyway, rediculous people aside, one interesting thing we'll have to see is if team Cuba can keep it's team together during the Classic. They will spend the entire tournament on US soil. Baseball players aren't payed all that well in Cuba, and if they defect they have the opportunity to become very rich.

Snagging a few more Cuban players would make the WBC even more worthwhile.

It hasn't started for most of the teams yet. The Asian teams played early so that they have a chance to get over their jet lag before playing in America.

The Dominican Republic just beat Venezuela 11 to 5 and U.S.A is playing Mexico right now.

So glad I got off work early today...

Anyone who doubts this tournament should turn this game on, you should hear the intensity from the fans for this game(even if too many of them are cheering for Team Mexico)

so this tournament is a good thing because of the mindless nationalism it inspires?

Nice Game, good pitcher's duel Good job to Mexico too, had a couple of their shots gone a little further this game could have been tied.

I'm sorta following along to the WBC. I also hope it becomes a recurring thing--there's another one planned in three years, I think, and then every four years thereafter.

That said most of my enjoyment came from the total asspwnage that China got from all three of its neighbors. I know that China's not as developed, baseball-wise, and is even now thinking of getting into cricket, but... my god, being crushed like that? 40-5 over 3 games?

That said, I was actually slightly surprised at Japan's loss--I'd expected them to win, though not by as large a margin (mostly due to the Major League lineup discrepancies: Korea had most of its powerhouse pitchers, Japan didn't have its slammers... figured it'd be close, but that the Japanese offense would win out--especially in light of their two games ending early due to invocation of a mercy rule).

                                uhhhmm

                                it is

this so called "regionalism" related to sports teams is just restricted to the cities the teams play for... the worst you get is maybe Bears fans yelling at Packers fans, but it's all in good fun...

nationalism leads to wars, genocide, oppression, etc... sports isn't about fun anymore, it's about your country, your culture, your race... who is superior...

it's not about the athletes and the pure sport...
