drinkers should get discounts. We all know the health benefits of drinking. Though drinking could also cause unwanted pregnancies, which would be more of a strain on health care costs.
Smokers die earlier, which puts less pressure on Social Security .

But this is about health care cost, not SS.
It's all money in the end. Smokers benefit us by dying early, which offsets their health costs (actually there has been a study done which shows banning smoking would have the long term effect of raising health care costs as current smokers would live longer and old age takes a higher drain on health care than smoking does) .

Background Although smoking cessation is desirable from a public health perspective, its consequences with respect to health care costs are still debated. Smokers have more disease than nonsmokers, but nonsmokers live longer and can incur more health costs at advanced ages. We analyzed health care costs for smokers and nonsmokers and estimated the economic consequences of smoking cessation.
Methods We used three life tables to examine the effect of smoking on health care costs — one for a mixed population of smokers and nonsmokers, one for a population of smokers, and one for a population of nonsmokers. We also used a dynamic method to estimate the effects of smoking cessation on health care costs over time.
Results Health care costs for smokers at a given age are as much as 40 percent higher than those for nonsmokers, but in a population in which no one smoked the costs would be 7 percent higher among men and 4 percent higher among women than the costs in the current mixed population of smokers and nonsmokers. If all smokers quit, health care costs would be lower at first, but after 15 years they would become higher than at present. In the long term, complete smoking cessation would produce a net increase in health care costs, but it could still be seen as economically favorable under reasonable assumptions of discount rate and evaluation period.
Conclusions If people stopped smoking, there would be a savings in health care costs, but only in the short term. Eventually, smoking cessation would lead to increased health care costs.

Problem is that Tia is at a health care provider. Before Josie was born (before conception even) I was a pack a day smoker, and my doctor told me that the carcinogens are in your clothes, on your breath, etc. So, even if I just didn't smoke around the baby I would still be exposing her to potential harmful chemicals just by having the smell on me.
Her employeer is being nice in saying that she can smoke, just don't smell like it when you are at work. Though I have no idea how to do that.
I'm not married to Tia..........

Ok after day two of this new policy folks are still complaining of smoke. Not on me today but on a few others, we were pulled in a room and told look you need to fix this problem. I looked at them and told the guy HR said the smell isnt even in the policy i dont know why we are being lectured. I had policy in hand and he had the nerve to tell me it is implied. i told him that is bs, if it is part of the policy it should be written in there.
I do wear scrubs at work i have to change into hospital owned scrubs i dont wear my own at work.
This part was great, we have to get our scrubs out a pyis machine, and i grabed three pairs to prove a point. One pair smelled of a nasty bo, one pair smelled of smoke and the other pair smelled of some nasty chemical.
they havent been worn they were still rolled ina rubber band. I had this guy smell the scrubs and he was like wtf are u saying. I told him all three of these clean scrubs not worn yet all reek. So i suggest you do something about the laundry so these are cleaned properly. I said again my husband smokes there is nothing i can do about it. other then to divorce him and move in with the complainers.
The right to work states rules are as follows, u canbe fired for any reason, that all turns to that fired employee being paid unemployment insurance for a firing that is not their fault. I told this director, I am under a 13 week written contract and a 9 month verbal one. i said techniclly you can fire me but u will pay my existing written contract and will be taken to court to get the next 13 weeks and i will be done with ya, not to mention you will pay me unemployment for firing me for something i have no control of i.e the supposed fresh clean scrubs that reek before you wear them. He then said this meeting was over and then told me it wasnt me this time it was somebody else. I told him i didnt care it would be me on monday

One other thing, when i go out side off the grounds to smoke i wear a cover gown that is non peremable. I wsnt aware that smoke could penetrate a gown like that. I know its not my hair cause i have a cap on my head that covers all my hair. I figure if this gown i wear to cover my scrubs can keep out the smell of **** it certainly can keep out smoke.
