It might seem that way, but Mr. Livingstone thinks nothing of cosying up to this creep:

Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi came under attack after describing Palestinian suicide bombers in Israel as "martyrs".
BBC, News, BBC News, news online, world, uk, international, foreign, british, online, service

Like most fundie Muslim clerics this dork is also virulently homophobic.

"On behalf of the people of London, I would like to apologise to the Sheikh for the outburst of xenophobia in sections of the media."
    Ken Livingstone

    Delightfully ironic.

Just not apologising on behalf of the Jewish ones, presumably....
Vive la liberte. Noor Inayat Khan, Dachau.

...patriotism is not enough. I must have no hatred or bitterness towards anyone. Edith Cavell, 1915

yeah, well, he is a dickhead. I don't think there's much argument about that in this thread. Should he be suspended? I am not sure.

"...found guilty of bringing his office into disrepute..."

I can think of a long list of politicians that would meet that standard.
"I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow
"I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it." - Mark Twain

If even the Daily Telegraph is saying his suspension is a bad idea then i think you have to question it.

Regardless of what you may think of him he is an elected official. I've never even heard of the panel of adujication and i find it quite scary that this quango ( are they?) can effectively decide to remove the elected mayor of london for a month.

Ken Livingstone is, IMV, a vicious anti-semite who supports the mass murder of Jews to attain the goal he shares of destroying Israel. His constant cosying up to Islafundies is sickening, and as Molly said, he would never have made such a comment to a muslim.

His comments to Finegold were unpleasant, as befits an unpleasant man like Livingstone, but not in themselves worthy of punishment.

The whole censorious climate in Britain (described by one poster as "the unelected PC crowd") was almost invented long ago by the very same Ken Livingstone in his long years of promoting divisive ethnocentric identity politics in the erroneous cause of 'diversity'. He was the man, more than any other individual, who championed the case of screaming blue murder and censoring opponents who say things you find offensive. Without people like Livingstone, we probably wouldn't have all this cartoon hysteria - those fundies have basically had their script written by him.

So, Ken Livingstone has been hoisted by his own petard, so to speak, which is entirely appropriate and amusing, but it's still not right. It's another step on the Orwellian road to further and further censorship and thoughtcrimes.

( OT : This is the man, btw, who urges Londoners not to flush their toilets, so as to save water. He refuses to allow progressive solutions like desalination plants because they 'use energy'. He also proposes to penalise rubbish disposal, punishing those who put out too much rubbish for collection, thus encouraging flytipping, throwing your rubbish into your neighbours garden and other disgusting health-hazards. )
