this is a viewpoint that many, if not most, people here share with me
I don't like to compare games of different genres. I judge them on their own merits. Sometimes I am in the mood for TBS, sometimes I feel like pwning some n00bs in a FPS.
It's unfair to say (for the sake of argument) that Counter-Strike: Source is a better game than Civ 4 (for instance). I love both those games. But they are different and can't be compared to each other.
in my life, the top games that have wasted the most of my time are (in no particular order)
EA's NHL series... NHL95 the most...
Civ series.... mostly Civ2, but now Civ4
Counter-Strike (now CS:Source)
Starcraft: BW
these games are in 4 different genres... they are all awesome games
I can't say which one I like more than the others because sometimes I feel like playing Civ, sometimes I feel like playing NHL hockey, sometimes something else.
although lately, I'm not into RTS as much... there hasn't been a great RTS since Starcraft... AoE3 was interesting for a little bit, but got old. Same with RoN.To us, it is the BEAST.Comment
