Dis, dude! That's so true! I mean we did go to downtown, wanted to see the.. you know what all the movies have and all those.. the old really famous stuff. It was pretty nice, kind of .. gives you two worlds of gambling, other is the old glamorous, but little driven down already kind of.. world. But you know all those.. you go 'hey that's the, I've seen that .. ngngngege' you know..
Then like I said in the roadtrip story I wrote when we came back, that we were looking at the stratosphere from downtown and figured, hell, even though we took a cab here from the strip, that ain't too long of a walk for the stratosphere, you know, a mistake. You can lose the sense of distances there, thinking it's way closer.. I mean we walked the strip few times from the other and to the other and THAT was a LONG ASS WALK!!! But lots of fun
So.. we went only couple of blocks to the side from the downtown, and BOOM, like 2 minutes of walking and we're somewhere that looks the same as those gang movies. SUddenly no one took care of the lawn, suddenly there was tires and stuff, and no one on the streets. Except one OLD looking woman in her 30s. We laughed 'hey check that out, a crack hoe!'. You know we've never seen that so that was amusing. Until he talked to a young african american entrepaneur, figuring he was a pimp. Then we knew not to take any photos and actually put the camera back in the bag altogether and kind of.. not take stuff out.
Few blocks more, it just got worse and worse. I mean, there was this bus, that transfers people from police stations to jail or something, and that was full of dudes, except that the building they were in was actually right in that block. We figured, oh well, that's funny, so close to downtown. We walked few blocks more. This is where we figured it's not just dumb country boy thinking this is bad neighbourhood, it definitely was exactly that, and teh stratosphere was still a long walk away so maybe the first time in our lives we had to turn back and just.. forget about it. We were stubborn for a while you know, like I never turn away from nothing, it's daylight for Jebus sake. But something on the back of our heads told us to use common sense.
Yeah it turned into **** in few blocks. Unbelievable, I've never seen transformation happen THAT fast. Just unbelievable.
But LV is still a place I will visit once againIt's still great, in entertainment kind of way.
In da butt.

It's ok
Pros:
Lots of culture
Diverse and excepting of different people
Lovely vistas and shops
decent weather
great pubs
Cons:
It's very Pricey
Culture clashes
Opinionated People
I think have the 9th district court of embaressment doesn't help
Berkley, however, is just plain nutty. Mainly because you get mindless student liberals instead of the normal wage earning liberals... big difference
Protests are annoying
as is the Gay Pride Parade

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

I lived there for eighteen years. It's really a very special city.
In fact, it was so special, that when I felt it was time to move on, I couldn't think of any other American cities that could top it, except NYC. So I moved abroad - and still miss San Francisco.
I do hope the bus service has improved since I left 5 years ago ... :-)

yeah it has - and the price has jumped since! Its now $1.50 to ride if youre an adult, but there is no timetable. they just got new buses and got rid of those buses that were older than the drivers. plus theyve expanded the tram network all the way south to visitacion valley. and they are less likely to come in packs of six bumper to bumper (and then of course if you missed those, youd have to wait an hour for the next one)"Everything for the State, nothing against the State, nothing outside the State" - Benito Mussolini

They've come up with a Bay Area solution to the lack of timetable, however - now, you can get real-time information on the location of busses online. And yes, they still come in clumps sometime. http://www.nextmuni.com/Visit First Cultural Industries

Somewhat expensive in comparison with other parts of California and say, Seattle, but great restaurants (range and quality) easy access to the countryside, some stunning vistas and world class architecture and splendid galleries and museums, and of course all those sites/sights familiar from some of my favourite films: Dirty Harry, Vertigo, Bullitt.
I'd recommend it to anyone.Vive la liberte. Noor Inayat Khan, Dachau.

I've only been there for conventions, so have only seen downtown area and various restaurants. Awesome food town.
I interviewed with a company there last summer. Checking out the housing market, it quickly became clear that I couldn't afford to live anywhere close to the city.Apolyton's Grim Reaper 2008, 2010 & 2011
