  • Real Life vs Online Life

    Which do you like more?

For the past year or so real life for me has limited my time online. Driving back and forth to work and spending time with my g/f and kids has left little time for surfing the net. I still get on now and then to lurk here or catch up on news. My cushy state job gives me the opportunity to surf but I find I'm just not as in to it. Maybe because of the ban on porn. But all in all my real life is much more enjoyably these days. Things are all perfect but everything is going well.

Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh

I'm still at uni, so I don't have any real life offline either.
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

Real life, of course. What I don't get are those people who act differently here than in real life. But maybe those are the folks who derive some sort of fulfillment out of online life.

I don't put those two against each other. In real life I post on this board and I'm the same guy, insane and sexy.

my "real" life encompasses things I do online

I don't draw a distinction between the two because I am not a different person online than in real life.

Although, I'm probably perceived differently by some people here than I actually am in real life. I'm sure my sense of humor, my references, and maybe some of the other things I say get misinterpretted, misunderstood, and sometimes taken seriously when they really shouldn't.

A lot of the things I say here probably would be perceived differently if you were in my presence IRL and heard/saw me saying them. A lot is lost in the form of communication... the method of delivery, the tone of voice, visual cues, non-verbal communcation, etc.

With a sizeable group of people, I'd say that I like communicating via the interwebs. It allows everyone to post their thoughts in a somewhat orderly fashion. Everyone is pretty much on equal footing... meaning, there aren't loud people, or more outgoing, social people that will "drown out" the thoughts and opinions of others. So I get to hear everyone's point of view.

But if I'm going to be around people I like, I'd rather be with them in person, so I can talk with them, hang out, and actually do something.

/me votes banana (but leans towards real life)

                  Real life?
Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

My real life is wonderful. I had an opportunity to break away and leave Poly forever. Wilma cured me of my addiction to a great many things (hurricanes help one put their priorities in order) but I'd miss you guys. Guys the fact that the OT was so ****ing boring during late Nov to early Jan didn't make it any easier to come back.

That's weird -- most other students would say they had the time of their life during their college years making friends, partying, ****ing, drinking . . . . . . .
