And they still get a portion of money they make over the limit, so it isn't like they get nothing.

The NFL is better npw that it has ever been... I'll take that sort of 'crap' in MLB, any day.

I never knew sports was about bringing together 32 mediocre teams and seeing which one is the least mediocre. I always thought that everyone builds their own team, and then we see who built it the best.

I have a team in one of the largest and richest city of America! I am a better manager because my fanbase is three times as rich! poor teams just need to hire people who went to college and start working instead of living off welfare!

Yep... under certain constraints. It is sad that some people see mediocrity just because a few teams can't monopolize the talent, leaving the rest of the teams with no hope.
I also imagine you'd be eliminating the draft? After all, it's a socialistic attempt to equalize talent in the league(s) and teams should just be able to sign players directly?

and get rid of the union - its pretty pathetic when these multimillionaires go on strike cuz they want to get paid $5 million instead of $4. I mean, give me a break.

Now seriously, who's getting that money if it isn't the players? The owners. Baseball is a big business that generates big bucks. The Union is there to make sure the players get the largest possible part of the cake. It's only a fair game in a capitalist system.
Owners aren't that greedy though. Baseball teams aren't that good of an investment. It's like a really expensive toy.

also true - theres evil on both sides. but since owners arnt whiners, complaining about how $6 million a year isnt enough to feed their families, Ill stick with them in this case.

Spot on. A union is necessary in big time professional sports to prevent the owners from screwing over the players. Do you remember how it was before the unions had any power? In MLB, you were stuck with your team forever (the reserve clause). If you didn't like your club, you couldn't just stick out until the end of your contract, because in the system that existed, the team owned you and could prevent you from playing for anyone else.
Hell, the entire Black Sox scandel was because Comiskey was shorting his players while keeping all the cash for himself.
I usually side with the owners in modern labor disputes (by "modern", I mean after 1980), but there are plenty of scumbag owners who have a ton of money, but are total cheapskates when it comes to their teams, perfering to keep the cash for themselves and short the players. Look at the Minnesota Twins for instance. Or, as OBoris has pointed out, Jeffrey Loria. The NFL has its Art Model and Georgia Fronterie. The players want to get their piece of the (VERY RICH) pie. I can't blame them for that.
