Obviously they should not have tested her math skills in her native ounge, not in English.
Before you guys get yourself in a tizzy about this though, remember that most states offer special education high school diplomas. I'm certain they don't force special ed students to take the same exam.

I think ultimately though this is the fault of the school in the end. If they didn't learn the skills needed to pass the exit exam, they should have been failed in the classes where they were taught those skills, rather then bringing them up through the grades telling them there performance was good enough and then fail them at the last moment.
I agree with most of this. They should have been failed during their course work to force them to study and learn, however, to many teachers, parents, and students don't care and just get passed along. The exit exam is the final check to make sure social promotion wasn't occuring and that students actually had the skills needed to graduate.
The sad fact is the latino activists who are upset about this are the real people screwing the students over. They're the ones who demanded standards be watered down and failing students be passed along because they claimed latinos were unfairly picked upon. The activists want to just let everyone graduate even if they haven't learned a thing and don't have the basic skills needed to get a job. I understand that latinos drop out of school at very high rates but making diplomas worthless isn't the anwser.

Sh*t like this is one of the reasons why our schools are so dumbed down. I bet many school districts in the same situation would of given into the parent's demands, elected school boards care more about pleasing the parents that vote for them than doing what is best for the students.
In fact most school boards did give into the parents' demands and that was the reason the state created an exit exam requirement. It was designed to prevent social promotion from occuring and require schools actually prove students have learned basic skills before the students receive a diploma.

From now on we must provide math tests in Spanish, using Spanish numbers and symbols, to latino students. That much is clear.

Oh but we do. Though the state must give them up to one year of additional tuitoring free of charge in order to assist them in passing the exit exam.
That was in the OP.
Are they talikng about special ed students who want a general diploma, or special ed students who are trying for a special ed diploma? If they have to pass the general exit exam they ought to get a general diploma.

A good question which I don't know the anwser to. I honestly didn't even know there was such a thing as a special education diploma. I imagine the special ed kids have their own exit exam tailored to the needs and expectations of a special ed student. I don't know that as a fact though.
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.
we have a similar test in our hi schools that u have to pass to graduate. i had to take one and it was difficult the math sections are harder for me since my dyslexia occurs more with numbers then words. i did get special help to allow me to take this test and passed on the first tiem but i had a lot of extra time to finish the part of the test. even now to this day i have anther nurse back up the math i calculate for the meds i have to administer. I have to say not every one can be a genusis when it comes to math. I my self have never gotten passed nor did i need anything higher then algebra for my degree Geometry is not a area i can do with any degree. let alone trig and calculus.
Perhaps this girl has given up on trying to learn math i know for a long while i did, cause it was to hard

Being dyslexic is hard work. I don't even try anymore.

If they don't speak a lick of English, that's one thing, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. If they've never seen a calculator and never proceeded in math beyond 1+1=2, that's one thing, but that doesn't seem to be the case here either. I'm sorry, but this is EXACTLY why colleges and universities across the United States are bemoaning the influx of academically retarded freshmen: The public high schools keep graduating them to be rid of them and make them someone else's problem, efforts to properly educate them and prepare them for college/university be damned.
