The New York Times' fabrication of Lee Wen Ho's "guilt" has put a serious dent in its credibility, at least in some areas.
Just because Lee Wen Ho is Chinese. Are you playing a race card here?
Shame that you will be restricted going on like that.
So this is what it has come to. Go ahead and try.

How is a "New York-based media watchdog group" the same as the NYT?
I am not saying they are the same.
Such groups often have a problem with the reliability of their information wrt the PRC and similar countries. That the NYT writing a news item based on this information isn't going to help them, when they should be rebuilding after their fiasco.

So you're arguing that the NYTimes shouldn't publish about China because of something that happened over 5 years ago? Something that they have apologized for and scrutinized heavily over.

If Credibility Value could be expressed as an integer...
I think for some Apolyton posters, the real numbers are not sufficient to express their current level of credibility of late...

Freedom of the press in the PRC has been steadily under attack since Hu and Wen came to power. Censorship of the press and internet has steadily increased during their reign.
It's really sad, since so many (including me) had hopes there would be more reforms. Instead it's been a long string of disappointments. Hu especially, has turned out to be nothing more than a standard CCP aparatchik.
I don't think these guys will be remembered very fondly 20 years from now.
Probably. Crackdowns are expected when there is a transition of power like from Zheng to Hu. However, Hu's been in power long enough to begin expecting some of those changes. I never did to begin with, though.
