Hitler is responsble for far more deaths than Bush. However, Hitler isn't even the worst offender. There are far worse people that Chavez could compare Bush to.

    depths? I am tired.

Stalin and Mao both killed more people. In terms of pure nasty religious fundimentalism and killing everyone who is different then Charles V of Spain is up there. Mohammad was a power mad psychopath who ordered virtually all of the Jews of the Hadjiz killed or enslaved plus he was a nasty pedophile having sex with a 6 year old but I doubt he doesn't quite rise to the level of Hitler or Stalin. I have no doubt Mohammad would have commited far worse crimes if he had the power but luckily he didn't.

Chavez is a frigging moron, we've already established that much. I think he may be some sort of mutant who loses 1% of his mental capacities every time he gives a speech. And it's not that he had that much to begin with.

Just shut up, man! In your situation, it's the non-moronic thing to do!

He's just another populist who knows that the key to staying in power is to focus everyone on the outside enemy. Arab dictators know this, Bush knows this, and even Chavez knows this.

Chavez, who last year bought helicopters and 100,000 rifles from Russia, said he would seek to buy more arms to defend Venezuela against any attempt to topple his government. [...] Chavez moves to create a huge military reservist movement.

                                not all is bad though

But recently, under what President Hugo Chavez calls his "Bolivarian Revolution," named for the 19th-century independence leader Simon Bolivar, the Venezuelan government has offered high school and university educations to adults left behind.

"Now those neighborhoods are stabilizing. This revolution is putting some enthusiasm in the people," said Henriquez, the son of an artist, who peddles revolutionary posters on the sidewalks of the capital. "Before, they didn't have any hope."

He plans to follow in his brother's footsteps and attend Mision Ribas, a high school for adults. "People are looking for ways to advance and keep going," he said while standing near his poster display. "The people were waiting for that, and it has arrived."

so that might mean that education is improving

Before Chavez took office, Garzea and others said, Indians had no legal protections from discrimination and no political voice. In society, they were relegated to an ornamental role. The president, who embraces his Indian ancestry, bestowed native people with ancestral land, full citizenship rights, recognition and protection under the national constitution.

"With Chavez we have opened our eyes," Garzea said the next day, standing under the red canopy of the new vendors' stall. "Before, to think, to explore, to imagine, wasn't possible. Now, we can."

                                the aboriginal people being recognized

After Chavez won the referendum in 2004, opposition parties fell into disarray due to infighting. The rumblings of criticism are heard largely through the mainstream media, which aggressively cover Chavez's missteps, real or perceived

freedom of press (at least it appears to be the case)

& he didn't exectue anyone after the failed coup. That in itself is quite remarkable I'd say for an authoritarian leader.

Most of the bad things about him are regularly regurgitated, and he has plenty, but not all is bad though, we will see what happens on the next election.
