  • Will the new GOP leadership be as corrupt as the old?

Serious question since I know nothing about the man other then he is Republican, from Ohio, and was hand picked by Delay. My gut tells me if he was so close to Tom Delay that Delay picked him to be his stand in while he under goes his money laundering and corruption trial then the new man is just a rewash of the old man.

Still, let's hear about it. What do people know?

Rep. John Boehner of Ohio was elected House majority leader Thursday to replace indicted Rep. Tom DeLay. Boehner defeated fellow Republican Rep. Roy Blunt of Missouri, 122-109, after lagging behind his rival in a first, inconclusive ballot.

CNN says the guy who lost was tied to Delay, and your NPR link appears to indicate something similar.

Oerdin, have you stopped punching your girlfriend in the face, or are you still considering it?

Still considering it from time to time.

In any event if it walks like a dog, barks like a dog, and looks like a dog maybe it isn't a dog. Or then again maybe it is.

The bigger question is: Will anyone care enough to give back Congress to the Dems?

                    I'm betting big on "No"

The question is will the Democractic leadership pull their heads out of their collective a**es long enough to put together an array of programs and policies the U.S. people will back, or will they continue to just say "Whatever Bush is for, we're against."

The first is leadership the second is S.O.P.

House Republicans gave K Street a Boehner

From a Hill article a few months ago:

Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio), a likely candidate for a position in the House Republican leadership if former Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) does not return, has assembled a loyal and effective network of lobbyists.
Boehner formed his alliances on K Street when he served as chairman of the GOP conference from 1995 to 1998, when his portfolio included working with lobbyists on K Street.

“He was a policy traffic cop for the business community,” one of Boehner’s allies said. “When [former Rep. J.C.] Watts [Okla.] won [the election for conference chairman], DeLay, in the whip position, vacuumed in the policy and business outreach. He added staff and translated business outreach into votes, which is something [Missouri Rep.] Roy [Blunt] is doing now.”

Many GOP sources say Boehner would receive strong support from his so-called K Street Cabinet if he decides to run for another leadership post. He is considered a strong contender to become majority leader or speaker if DeLay, who is under indictment on charges of conspiracy and money laundering in Texas, does not return to his post or if Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) retires in 2008.

The only "reform" candidate for Majority Leader was Shadegg. He lost. DeLayism won.
"Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way. "

He didn't really fit in, and there wasn't enough time for him to have a name change to Shagg.

                              Boehner

Edit: Sha+g is auto-censored!? I thought we'd moved past all that.
