For the record, the capitol police has now admitted that it stepped beyond its bounds when it arrested Sheehan and the Republican wife (I really should know her name). Sheehan is now sueing the capitol police for first ammendment violations. All in all, I'd say it wasn't the best thing that could happen to Bush's SOTU.

What does that have to do with 'the Republican majority'?

I find it highly suspecious that they suddenly decided to enforce a law which they knew the courts had already struck down. Law enforcement are briefed all the time on changes in law and since this would be one of the fundimental duties of the capital police it would be strange for them to suddenly forget that law was struck down.

It just seems very convient to "make a mistake" and have her arrested knowing she won't be released until after the speech is over. Why wasn't the other woman wearing a t-shirt arrested? Why only Sheehan? Yes, it looks like politics was at play.

Which one? The 1992 coup attempt? Yes it failed and he got sent to prison for it. Then he was given a pardon and decided that winning elections was the only way he could ever effect change.

The Republican wife was not arrested. She was asked to cover up the pro-war t-shirt or to leave. She left. Sheehan was told to cover her t-shirt which listed the number of KIAs or she'd be arrested.

I think Chavez's policies are frankly stupid especially how he's single handedly trashed the non-oil portion of the Venuzuelan economy. I also dislike how he tries to distract people from problems at home by constantly beating the drums of anti-Americanism just as Castro and several Arab dictators do. That said he is not a dictator. He most certainly has a very large authoritarian streak and he behaives undemocratically with how he attempts to silience the media which doesn't fawn over him as well as how he selectively enforces laws against people who oppose him while turning a blind eye to his friends that do the same.

Who the hell cares? Maybe she annoyed the cop. The point is that she got a chance to hang on past her allotted 15 minutes of fame and people have a chance to blather on about a faux contraversy as if it might be important. A win all around for her.
