That's because in blue states, they use states rights to increase your freedom, while in red states they use it to decrease your freedom. I am not consistent in my support of states rights. I am consistent in my not wanting the overnment telling me how to live my life.
Hmmm...So you should have the right to live in a state that has different values than you and the state should be forced to adopt your values? Perhaps, if these "freedoms" are so important that you should do one of two things: 1.) Move to a Blue State, or 2.) Become involved in educating people on the merits of your ideas.
Freedom of sppech is federally guaranteed by the constitution...speak your mind and, if your idea has merit to the local social structure, then change will begin to take place.
Legislating or judicially imposing values on a National level is not the answer. Communities and States should decide what works best for their particular culture. Over time, population movement and education will make things pretty standard I would imagine.

Much as I loathe sticking up for Commies, 1.) is not always economically feasible and in our current political climate 2.) rarely works. People tend to react to disagreement with a label of treason or fascism, depending on which side is disagreeing.
But when the federal welfare rolls then swell with Red-Staters, and when the Dept. of Education has to pump money into a school system the state won't adequately fund, and the money to keep it all afloat comes disproportionately from Blue States, then, yeah, I have a problem.
The easy solution to this is to get rid of federal welfare and severely curtail federal spending on education. Looks like you should vote conservative in the next election.
However, I disagree that the federal government has the responsibility or even right to redistribute income in the manner that it does. In other words, don't prop up Mississippi schools with federal dollars. When Mississippi desires a higher standard of life then the people of the State should have the responsibility of taking action. If the people don't desire a higher standard of life, then why should a federal system impose one on them?

Rolling back the New Deal isn't my idea -- it's the GOP's idea. I just think people who actually vote for the party that wants to roll back the New Deal should be prepared to live without it.
