Red Sox Pick up OPB Machine - Ready for 06 World Series

WBC could be interesting, but only if they held it during the all star break once every four years, and if they eliminated a certain number of games that season. (give them like two weeks off to play WBC)
How late in the year do you want the World Series to be? Are we going to have games in the snow?

I have mixed feelings about the WBC. I can see Arrian's point about injuries - and I bet if there are any serious ones to MLB players the whole thing will be scrapped for the future. But it will also be nice to get an early baseball fix.

The WBC would SUCK if it was all minor leaguers. I want to see the pros fight it out for their country.

Seriously, what happens if Pedro blows out his shoulder?
The Mets come in 4th again. Oh, wait... I said that would happen regardless.
Pedro is a good example. He's already injury prone, and the Mets are paying him a truckload of money to pitch during the MLB season. If he gets injured in the WBC, the Mets are left paying millions of contract dollars for nothing.
If some MLB player(s) get injured in this thing it could go three ways:
1. WBC never happens again.
2. Player contracts include WBC clauses that protect the club if the player gets injured. This, of course, would reduce the willingness of MLB players to participate.
3. Expanded futures game as you suggested.
The more I think about it, the more I understand why owners weren't all fired up about the whole idea to begin with.

Yep. At first blush, it sounds petty. Then you think about it.
Forget the exact dollar amounts on the contracts, even. Imagine losing your ace b/c of this. Or your starting shortstop ( :makessigntowardoffevil: ). It's not like you can replace those guys easily anyway, but in February/March. Are you ****ing kidding me?
I'm sorry, but from the perspective of the MLB season, the WBC is a bad idea.
