It is a sim. Its pretty much only for people who care about the minute of wwii equipment etc. The differences between a PzKwIIIF and a PzKwH and the like. Its is basically for WWII nuts only not the casual Call of Duty type of WWII player.

The spawn lists contain well over 600 infantry and only around 30 tanks per town. Theres also antitank guns and antiaircraft guns, heavy pullers and trucks, scout cars and APC's. The vast majority of the game is played by people as infantry. There are some who play solely as a tanker or pilot of course, but a battle cannot be won alone without infantry support.

Sure. Keep in mind there are only 10 guys in the company that makes the game, and that there is a 6km view distance when your on the ground. To have real physics applied to every single bullet fired in that area (read zillions) is a HUGE think for even the fastest pc's around. Polygon budgets must be kept in consideration for stuff like this.

Furthermore its all played on one giant map where there are no zones, no loading from area to area as its just one giant 1/2 scale map of Europe. Its very very different from the swords and wizard type MMOG's that can concentrate on their graphics and are being developed by a huge company.

The game engine its being played on is actually 5 years old! The strides they have made in those 5 years are tremendous, and they've been developing their 2nd generation graphics engine for some time now. If you compare the screenshots form the game during it admittadly horribly rushed release in 2001 (the majority of the reviews on gamingsites are from then) and what the game looks like now you'll see quite a difference. Besides the game is more about playability than eyecandy.

For instace in the last campaign the Germans mounted a 117 plane air operation. They all flew together to target and swept the countryside clean for a good while. If you flew around with 117 planes in something with graphics like Il-2 your machine would kill itself.

Hi, I have been playing only since april 2004, and I havent seen him around at all. I checked his statistics and it seems he hasn't played in awhile. so what I want to know (and what I saw as not realistic) is how many infantry to other sorts of things (planes/tanks) are there in a given battle?

I heard of lot sof examples of 50 tanks and 50 planes and 2 infantry in a battle

Well it would be different for every battle, its all up to the players to organize the effort. Sometimes people drive tanks for up to 15+km away to join with another town's worth of tanks to make a tank-heavy assault. Sometimes you try to get the jump on the enemy by flooding the town with infantry, and eventually someone will arrive with a tank in a support role.


For an average mission as joe average grunt, you could expect to see near you 4-5 tanks grouped together, with infantry in support of them, plus 50+ other infantry in the actual town assault. But you are probably seing only one quarter of any given balltle as you have no idea whats going on on the other side of town (except for the radio comms).

Pretty much all of the 650+ towns are way larger than your average shoebox videogame town. Antwerp (the largest ingame) for instance is like 10km long, and a deathtrap for a tanker to enter without a crapload of infantry supporting him.

When did you try it out Jon Miller? The game changes dramatically with every patch (about one every 6 weeks) and the latest one which added Divisional and Brigade strategic elements to the map has been one of the best in terms of reducing the admittadly annoying 'tank zerg'.

I guess it's funny to you because you know these guys because they're part of your little WW2 online forums or whatever. But this whole thing is really stupid and clearly not funny at all.

Yeah he's been off it for a while because when he was on it well.......let's just say it consumed much of his time, energy and speech. It was all he talked about. But yeah, he's going to get back on within the next few weeks. His friend is Bota12. There was a whole Bota team for a while. He's pretty tough to out manuver on that game. He's tried teaching me but I just couldn't get into it. I think because my dad was a pilot and I heard it so much growing up that I just wasn't interested in a game about it. But I am learning 1602 A.D. and am liking that pretty well.
