Actually, southern Honshu looks a great deal like a distorted wang, complete with testicles and a glans. I know this because...well, long story.

I had a prof last semester who had some freakish theories. To this dude, everything was about sex in some icky Freudian way. Whatever the subject was that he was teaching at the moment, he would find psycho-sexual connotations to it. So, when I came to class one day and saw a map of southern Japan on the blackboard next to some notes he'd left, I naturally wondered what he would do with it. This was a class about nineteenth-century American literature (we were covering Emerson at that point, iirc), so I had no idea how Japan could possibly be tied in. I, along with the rest of the class, took to speculating out loud. Finally, I hit on the only possible answer; if you squint at it, southern Honshu looks a lot like "the worm," to use one of the teacher's more comical metaphors.

Of course, he never mentioned the map in class and it later turned out it was a leftover from the previous class, held in that room by another teacher. Our prof had just forgotten to erase it.

Er, I just wanted to make it perfectly clear that I didn't just happen to notice phallic images in Asian geography...
