What do you know about careers? You're barely out of school. What do you know about what QA validation entails? Asher, until you do some considerable reading about what these jobs entail, I suggest you refrain from making yourself look like a bleeding fool and posting such crap. For the record the position I was referring to would have involved development and validation. You seem to be under some illusion I am unintelligent and incapable of learning. You are labouring under a very false illusion - one of my great traits is how quickly I can pick things up and apply them, and apply them well. All you can do is try and degrade others. To me, that suggests you are of very little substance yourself: all boast and no talent.

Depends on how you define IT skills. It can be a very broad term.

And no, not all biochemists have to go into biochemistry. Many of my colleagues have gone onto many professions, myself in QA, others in anything from software development to research to investment banking.

I'm confused -- would you be moving into QA validation, or would you be using your mad "IT skillz" to develop something used in QA validation?

What is the name of your employer? I'll have to take note to avoid their products if they were "desperate" to get a biochem geek to develop QA software. That speaks volumes of their care for QA.

That wouldn't be IT... it's not like they are just coming and making sure the phone works.

Maybe it's different overseas. A degree in IT/IS means you become a system administrator, a degree in CS/SE means you do that, or you can develop software, or you can research, or you can do theoretical maths...

Now, can we return to the original subject matter or stuff relating to it. Asher, if you have any queries about the work of QA, post a different thread.

                    Disgusting behavior on their part.

They're the people who make Paxil, right? The drug that has come under fire recently? Somehow it's fitting.

I was well-liked on my team, which is precisely why I was asked back when I graduate.

I didn't see any insults on my behalf here, whereas PH insulted my SO (again) yesterday, and called me a "MS fanboy" and made a reference to infidelities and contracting HIV. On the other hand, I made the observation that PH doesn't know anything about software development...

The only reason PH got hired, I reckon, is his employer clearly has no standards. Hell, they're asking a biochem geek with "IT" skills to develop QA software. Anything to save a buck, I guess.

Paxil is nothing to do with me. Tell me Asher, what do you know about the pharmaceutical industry too? Are you an expert there too? It's amazing how many fields you have gained expertise on in such a short timeframe

I think a Maintenance Excellence program would behoove any quality lab, or any regulated facility for that matter.

My last job was starting to implement such a thing because the revalidations were coming due and they were swamped. Sad thing was not everything REALLY needed to be revalidated, but some idiot wrote it into the NDA years before. They were going to begin recording drifts from PM/Cals as well as charting use of the equipment. Comparing Overall Equipment Efficiencies to Operating Hours and FTEs associated with the equipment I bet you'd end up saving millions over the life of a peice of equipment.

Having been a Process Engineer and now being a Validations Engineer in the Biotech industry I would definitly want to recruit someone familiar with the equipment to help with the work.

GSK is just as respectible as Pfizer.

Provost, I do have a question that is related to jobs in the biosciences...

How did you enter the biomedical sector? And what sort of degree would a newcomer require to break into the sector?
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.
