The guy on the Colbert Report last night brought up this issue: why would you need a new flu shot every year of evolution was not true?
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
Ben Kenobi: "That means I'm doing something right. "

I still can't get over the argument that "it's unbelievable that it just happened!"

Who created the "Creator"? Why is it more believable that a man waves a wand and creates people?

It's so ridiculous on the face of it. Creationists are some of the stupidest people in the world.
I agree with you completely of course, but I'm not sure about Creationists being stupid. For the average creationist, it's not really their own fault, the lack of a decent education in science, the marketting strategy of creationist kingpins (which is very clever, in the same way that Hitler was clever), for example, "scientists are an unAmerican intellectual elite out of touch with the working Christian".

Let's face it, we (people with common sense and non-reliance on blind faith for everything they do in life) are not going to convince these people by logic. If it was down to logic alone, Christianity would have remained lion food.

I've argued people out of their faith, before Christmas I was stopped on the street by a man from the "Open Air Mission" in the centre of the town where I live. He proceeded to explain that the Chronicles of Narnia was written by a Christian. I responded that CS Lewis was a paedophile. We debated the existence of God for about 20 or 30 minutes, I whittled him down to the ID argument, and forced him to conclude that it was a form of the cosmological argument. I then pointed out that the CA is inherently absurd (who created the creator? conclusion that contradicts a premise), and the guy started crying because he had no answer.

All that takes a lot of effort, and this guy was sufficiently well versed in verbal logic to understand what I was waffling on about. As for the poor suckers he was preying on, the voice of reason has to resort to the same or better emotive marketting techniques to combat this threat to the brevity of the human intellect.

My word, I had done the same thing. Mom asked me to go to the supermarker to get something, then I ran into some proselytiser - I think he's a Mormon (where's Tass?) - and argued with him for 40 minutes or so. I asked him about the golden discs and things like that.

Quite a number of them are rather insidious. They befriend you when you are down and emotionally weak, offer you a nice, friendly sort of enviornment, then pounce.
