  • "The Dread"

    I just warched a video about a new weapon being developed by Trinamics Technology called "The Dread". The weapon uses some sort of electric propulsion to fire up to 100,000 ball rounds/minute. The film claims that the weapon ios not only flashless and bangless, but also has no recoil. The later I find very difficult to believe. If it fires projectiles which have mass there should be recoil.

    Anyone ever heard of this?

    They stole it from PWS.

      If the balls are smoothly accelerated then the recoil force will be constant instead of the kick given by a gunpowder projectile weapon

        Ok yeah... what kind of velocity are we talking about? That would make a huge difference...

        Donegeal envisions 100,000 projectile balls just falling out of a barrel.

          Well the graphics showed walls being blown down, vehicles shattering and missles detroyed, but it was all simulated.

            There are weapons which many have bullets arrayed in the barrel, one after the other, which enables them to shoot very fast. Maybe it was one od those. They're not very precise. The best use is probably antimissile defence.

              That can be compensated for. Military assault rifles have little kick for what they can lay out.

                They have the same "kick", i.e. impetus; it's merely spread over a longer period of time using shock absorbers, reducing the maximum force felt.

                  Correct.

                    As far as I understand my physics, if the projectile is accelerated by some electromagnetic construction (like a mini-monorail in a gun), there shouldn't be any recoil?

                        Our technology has the following features and benefits:
                        • electronically programmable rates of fire from single shots to ultra-rapid rates;
                        • no moving parts
                        • increased firepower to weight ratio
                        • 100% electronic operation;
                        • the potential of grouping of multiple calibers and multiple lethalities in one gun allowing the user to vary the use to a specific situation
                        • numerous hybrid configurations and Special Forces applications that could result in enhanced capabilities for use behind enemy lines

                        Yep, we antipodeans still know how to kill people

                            Nup. Any action requires yada yada

                            If you accelerate a projectile in one direction, there has to be an equal force in t'other. You can disperse the force in various ways, but the numbers have to add up in the end.

                            This thing basically loads a series of flanged rounds in the 'barrel.' Each round can then be fired before the previous round has left the barrel.

                            ... and why can't I ever get ignored?
