  • A really, really small hard drive

Toshiba showed off the world's smallest hard drive with a 0.85" form factor. The 4GB drive featured a spindle speed of 3600RPM and weighed less than 10 grams. Pretty impressive!

Especially since the cost is only $0.25!

New technology, Toshiba... ugh. Expect that HD to disappear in flames after 5 minutes of use

The picture doesn't prove anything really. It would be quite easy to make an artificial coin and put it on the palm of a giant (together with a normal sized HDD). I smell a hoax.

I think this is pretty nifty. However, the market's probably rather price sensitive. As I understand it, there is a lot of competition in this market from non-volatile memory. The iPod Nanos use non-volatile memory and those suckers are small.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

The problem with flash memory is that it's short lived compared to hard drives. Certain doom after 1000 writes, or something like that.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Unlimited reads, though. Harddrives will die faster in most cases, I think. Mechanical failures.
