    Romantic advice

    Scenario: My son's girlfriends, her mother and 2 mothers girlfriends came over to drop my son's girlfriend off on friday while the 3 women went out.

    I was immediately attracted to one of the friends. Before, I made any attempt, the woman noticed a Allen Iverson Jersey on my sons wall and said "That's a fine little man." I said "He's 6 feet tall." She replied that even though she's 5'7, and man needs to be at least 6 ft tall for her to go out with. This disqualifies me for the ride as I am 5'7'' myself. Still she showed some interest before she left. Making small talk and such. She seemed a little more interested when she found out I am a Naval Officer.

    When they returned from the club to pick up the daughter, mother was toasted. I had to assist her back to the car. A cadillac. I said, "I want a cadillac." Mom's Girlfriend replied, "I'm going to get you one baby." From that point a little flirting ensued. Not enough for me to commit myself to making an approach. When she left she made it a point to offer me her hand.

    If you were me, would you risk the embarrasment of going through my son's girlfriends mother to see if the woman is interested. I've already told my son I'm interested but I especially don't want him to see dad(me) get shot down. On the other hand, the woman is the first I've been interested in a while that is close to my own age, she's attractive, she's seems self-sufficient(independent), and smart.

    Finally, I find it true that hesitation and self-doubt lead to the most missed opportunities but haven't I already been disqualified by my height.

      Why the heck would what your son sees have anything to do with this? Please don't tell me you still think you could be one of his heroes.
      Just go for it - in platform shoes if necessary!

          If she's interested in six-foot-plus guys and likes naval officers, she probably expects a certain amount of machismo. Using her friend as a go-between....well, it screams "junior high school" to me. You might as well ask. If it goes sour, it's not like you'll be forced to face this woman all the time, is it?

          For an opener, you can just look down your pants and say, "sorry, only nine inches. Can you give me a shot anyway?"

            I can say this for the height part, being that i am 5 foot 11 inches i didnt think that shorter men were a problem for me but soon found it to be a problem for the shorter male. I have usually ended up dating (before marrying of course), men that were comprable to my own height or a few inches taller. For soem reason some men dont like to be seen with tall women as much as they do petite to shorter women.
            If you felt a spark i see any problem asking the gfs mother about the other lady, telling her you are interested in said other lady if you have a good relationship with her.
            All in all you have nothing to loose but if you ask. If you dont you could loose the oppurtunity to date a lovely lady

                              I have a reputation of being something of a ladies man in my son's opinion. He's never really seen me rejected, except with his mother. Which in his eyes was her fault. Even though I have had a lot of women, he has never seen the effort it takes me to get them. IN fact, the perception a lot of people have of me besides being on the radical left is that I am a womanizing player. A lot of people don't realize how shy and insecure I really am.
                              I don't live close to this woman. I can't make contact at this point without going through someone else.

                              I would like YOUR advice from any era you choose.
                              I don't have a problem with being 5'7''. Still, I have to recognize that height is a factor in this woman's case. I'm leaning towards taking a chance. I don't want to wait to long before I make my final decision.
