--"My Hime sounds like sailor moon."
I can see where the description given would give that impression, but it isn't at all like Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon is firmly in the mahou shoujo genre, but My Hime is quite firmly in the shounen action genre, although it might be better described as bishoujo action given the cast. It's probably worth giving a few episodes a chance to see what I mean.
--"I hate manga because it's in black and white and I've never been a fan of comics."
Um... okay. Well, it's your loss. There's a heck of a lot more manga than anime, and there's some quite good stuff that hasn't been made into anime yet. You can at least check out the animated portion of Berserk.

That's OtaKing ^_^
Not that many here have watched Otaku no Video, but still.

Might work, for the most part. I'm not sure he'll like how the series ends, but the mecha action in the rest of it would probably be enough, and there's always End of Evangelion for those who hate the TV series ending.
If you are interested in mecha anime,
StarLightDeath, Evangelion is a good one to check out. You might also consider Armored Trooper Votoms. Although the older character designs and music might not be to your taste, the action is definitely quite good.
For action/adventure, you might want to watch the Read or Die OVA. It's only three episodes, and feels a lot like a cross between James Bond and X-Men.
--"Also, Battle Angel Alita is a great manga. I have to assume there's an Anime of it somewhere."
There is, sort of. It's out of print in the US, so it could be hard to find these days. It didn't do well in ratings in Japan, so only two episodes were ever made. It really isn't as good as the manga, but it isn't bad.
--"Paranoia Agent and Lain"
Two great shows, but given his tastes above they don't really hit any of the buttons he's indicated liking. Neither is anything at all like an action series.
Could be worth a rent or something, though. StarLightDeath, let me know if you're interested in other genres, or if you're just looking for the Bleach/Naruto style shows.
