Where does this piece of "medieval" music originate from? (MacGyver thread!!)

Alright, you KNOW I'm not that much a geek. And yet, I can't help it...

...I've looked on the internet for computer game ingame music On my search, I came across game music for The Settlers / Die Siedler from the early 90s. I did rememebr some of that game's music and thought I'd have a try.

In part of the level music, there's some theme that I've heard on other occasions, even in that MacGyver episode (I had to get you in here somehow ) where he does all his witchcraft in some medieval environment (clicheed as hell). Does it have a more profound origin (some opera or so) or what? How CAN MacGyver and a PC game have the same music?

Odly enough, I can recite, and whistle, badly, both musics from Serf City/Settlers...

It sounds like basic medieval music. Composed by Markus Kludzuweit...

Though, I seem to recall "Shadowgate" for the NES having similar tune... And "Solstice". Both somewhat medievelish...

Can't give an example of that MacGyver scene, but I think it was played in the moment he lit some black powder or something.

The question is, how did the tune get into that episode?

Because, if it was composed by the designers for Serf City / Siedler, how big is the chance it will be used for a TV show? I'd have to check date of first time on TV, too. The game is from 1993, the MacGyver episode should be older than that.

The show stopped in 1992, so it must be a tune that was in use before the PC game.

Maybe the show designers invented it and those German programmers were MacGyver fans

There was a site which had all the music files ripped to mp3, but it went offline several years ago and I no longer have the files myself. Wish I could help, I'm looking for the same thing.

Cyclo, I've been doing some research, I'll give some synopsis of my results in some minutes.

Edit: forget about this, I'm not going much deeper now. There be some tool to extract it from the game but it doesn't work properly.
