Libraries are becoming less useful as work is digitized. You'd have to be stupid to start work in such a field today.I didn't know that you would be such easy meat. I thought that you where yet another MS freak, but you REALLY don't have a clue about what is happening neither in computing nor in RL.
Do you really think that library systems only handle HW books ?
Oh, and I seriously doubt that HW libraries are a dying race - if that was the case you would see a decline in publications instead of the increase that is going on.
Maybe you should dust off your good ole libsys and see if you could make a dimeWith or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

All I know is my university library (which is the largest in western Canada) is pretty abandonded these days, and the University just announced a $113M project (the Campus Digital Library) to digitize all of the UofC's books in the 14-story library tower and 9 other libraries across campus, and then integrating these into Google Scholar as well. All of the post-secondary institutions in Alberta will then be able to pool their resources and books.
Combined with the integration of Google Scholar we already have, very few people are using hardcover books (I presume that's what you mean by HW).
Hardcover libraries are on the way out. Just the way it is."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

What about reading culture? Does noone value a good book anymore nowadays?
Reading on the screen for too long makes my eyes hurt, but then those flat screens might be better.
Anyone got any experiences to share? Especially people who don't wear glasses would be a true source of information here.

$113M isn't something to scoff at. If you had any business sense, or even common sense, you' realize that's a good deal to get.
And the whole point is it's not going towards companies like the one you work for. The original proposal was to build another library tower to cater for the expanding student base. It was rejected instead, and the province is digitizing post-secondary instutitions and sharing the information across all of them. It's the way it's going to happen in the future."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

With the other advancements in epaper as well, it's not hard to see that library systems based on hardcover books is not a very strong industry to be in."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

I guess that most library system companies could have taken that job and they probably would do it better than Google.
Do you really think that we only handle hardcover books/videos/cd/DVD ?
Hate to say it, but the real world has long time ago surpassed your imagination. With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

All I know is you've displayed profound ignorance on large-project software engineering, been extremely hesitant to say which company you actually work for and which product you actually make, and the reasons for your secrecy are obvious to anyone with a clue.
You make simplistic software for simplistic markets using simplistic tools. If you think it's complicated, it's only because you're intellectually challenged."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
