  • Abramoff to plead guilty in deal with prosecutors!

Breaking news is that Jack Abramoff is pleading guilty to charges of corruption (per CNN and NYTimes sites). It seems that the prosecution probably are getting him to testify against Delay (at least that's what I think).
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Yes, dire straits for Abramoff. Hopefully he gets some decent jail time.

Well since he's helping out the prosecution, probably not all that much.

Well I guess the damage has already been done. No one in their right mind will ever ask him to set up any strategic fundraising plans again. Might as well go after other fish. Though of course there is that thing called justice...

There's an allegation that Jack possibly gave illicit funds to Bush's '04 re-election campaign. That would be awesome, though I'd still prefer members of Congress going down in flames in this.

I think Jack gave illicit funds to just about everyone.

Abramoff is doing a few years as per the plea deal and is going to resolve both the Florida casino case and the federal tax and bribery charges. Judging by the indictment, it looks like at least a few Congressmen and their relatives (including one Congressional Spouse that I wouldn't mind seeing behind bars), current and former staffers, Department of the Interior, OMB and some lobbyists could be going down. A lot of people are going to get wrecked.

Tinfoil hat time: I woudn't be surprised if someone decides to try to take out Abramoff. Although obvious, there is a sentiment among some in DC that if he somehow ended up dead that a lot of people would be better off.

Indeed... I'm sure when Abramoff sings, he'll make life uncomfortable for many a Congressman.

Lord, the one thread about this in Freeperville has a list the guy claims he "researched" from the "FEC" showing dozens of Democrats in Congress received money. So far, every hit I've gotten for such information about Democrats getting money from him conveniently neglects to provide a link to the official source other than other rightwing blogs.

Not to mention lobbyists. People are ****ting themselves because prosecutors may start prosecuting people under existing criminal statutes for practices that have been standard for years (i.e. Lobbyists raising/donating money/running PAC operations while lobbying). Im betting that prosecutors will doing legal gymnastics trying to get people for official corruption on things that would've passed muster six months ago.

They're conflating what Abrahmoff did with what his clients have done.

A few Congressman, and perhaps a Senator (Conrad Burns of MT) look like they're going down.

Imran is such a copy cat. I had him beat by at least 30 minutes.

And I've been posting from work so that has to be like a hat trick or something.

It's somewhat hard not to conflate the company and the person because a lot of lobbying contracts give the lobbying firm a certain amount of PAC money to play with and contribute within reason. PAC checks always have the company's name on it and usually have to be Ok'd by a few people.

Opps, make that almost 10 hours late. I looked at the last three digits and thought "Ha, I got him!"
