  • Is Rock dead?

Today I was on the bus, listening to the radio (of the bus), and that Old Stone Temple Pilots song, "Plush" was played, I never liked them much, but that sing imo particularly kicks ass.

Then I realized that its been years since the last time I remember listening to many songs like that on the radio, like 1997, what bands now make rock music?

It's deader than dead. So technically, it's indead!
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.
            -Richard Dawkins

It is only fitting that that the blase, mundane youth of today have such blase and mundane music.

                But for us older guys...

Funny. I, myself, asked this very same question in 1997. Wasn't that the year of the Spice Girls and the Macarena?

To translate: it's not dead, you're just not listening to it anymore. Or it has moved "beyond" your established tastes.

yes, but 1997 was the year of ok computer, and rock albums were still selling.
in 1998 it was spice girls and titanic and backstreet boys, and from that moment on every popular band of the early mid 90´s could no longer make a good selling album.
(pearl jam, smashing pumpkins, garbage, nine inch nails etc etc)

the problem I think is I stopped paying attention, I sense that backstreet boys and britney are no longer popular, but I dont know what is hip nowadays

                          Coldplay?

                            hiphop is hip.
