An example of what I'm talking about is ESPN. You have to pay for the really good features. IGN is real similar.

      They are dinosaurs.

The outlets that will dominate will find a way to skin the cat that opens their content for free consumption.

That wealth is the problem. There are too many magazines and newspapers, and too many articles in them.

Instead of browsing through them, you get recommended the articles you really want to read. Kind of like magic, but just technology and social networking

I am sure that will appeal to some people.

I wouldn't be surprised if some people did make a living of a sort off it in the future. I would expect that anyone successful would have to add some value of their own though.

For myself, no thanks. Apolyton's OT, and a few other forums already do the same for me for free, on top of the free sources of info that I can find on my own.

I doubt sailmakers all immediately went broke when the steam ship first appeared.

The thing is, the recommendation principle which we use in daily life, and which Google uses to rank pages and Amazon to suggest products, is still underused for filtering news and discussions.

Imagine if Apolyton OT had 5000 posts a day. You would need a recommendation/reputation system to know which articles to read.

The same is with news every day, only it's five million instead of five thousand. True, there are established authors you trust. But soon, software will be able by analizing who you read, and who the people you read read, to construct a truly amazing filtering system in which there won't be any articles you read halfway through and think "who ever made me click this crap"

There are established sources I like to read.

They already employ editors to cut down the noise and filter the information that they present.

What you propose is sort of like a glorified clipping service. If I want to read every article that reports on GM or their products, I employ a service that forwards them all to me, I don't go hunting for all of them myself.

There's a new version of the animation I mention in the opening post available:

                      EPIC 2015: http://epic.makingithappen.co.uk/new-master1.html (~13 MB)

                      This one includes iPods.
