    • I still haven't posted all my Syrian, Lebaneese and Jordanian pics, but here are the pics from my trip to eastern Turkey/Kurdistan and a couple of Syrian places on my way.

This is Halabiyya - ancient Zenobia, a city founded by Zenobia, later on a Roman boarded fort

The desert region around Dayr was the place where Turks were sending Armenians "displaced" from western Armenia during the great massacre of 1915

            • once again the church of Armenian Martyrs in Dayr az-Zawr. While the city - though busy and lively - is nothing to look at, this church is excellent. It has a very nice plan on the outside and in the inside. Three photos I have attached are the axis of the church - from the bones of Armenian martyrs in the cellar through the church up to the dome above it. Excellent architecture.
In the cellar You can see some photos of the massacre and of once armenian cities

This should be the grave of St Jacob of Nisibis in a byzantine church. I will tell more about this saint later on, he was kind of a superman of his times
I recall him from the history of syrian monks by Theodoret of Cyr.
I may attribute to him some of the stuff other monks have done. But I think it was him that sent a plague of mosquitos on the Persians besieging the city.
It was him that when has seen girls making laundry and they didn't cover themselves, cursed them. their hair turned grey and the stream evaporated. Theodoret admired Jacob as - as he's said - he could have sent wild beasts that would eat the girls. Still, they apologised and Jacob returned his spell.
Also, it was his advice and prayers that made Arius the heresiarch **** out his insides before he could be introduced into the church again

                    • This is one of the churches of Midyat. Not the nicest one, but note this little girl. Asked for a money by one girl, I gave it. In result I was surrounded by a number of others. I didn't have more coins to spare. they were trying to take stuff out of my pockets and were trying to make making photos impossible.
Not so long ago, Midyat was still a christian city, the old town is just churches, mosques are new and in the modern part of the city

                        • This is Hasankeys, Hasan-Kepa or whatever, one of the oldest cities in this region. Located over Tigris river, it was inhabited since prehistorical times, floiurished in byzantine period and was a capital of Artukids I think.
It is one of the nicest places on my way. People were very nice. it is inhabited by Arabs, and one guy I have met on my way insisted that i slept at his house - I declined, but he bought me a tea and a small album with pics of the city.

Most probably the city will be covered with waters due to a dam on the river.
