This ignores the enormous amounts of other zero-marginal-cost goods, such as scientific research. Development of new and better methods of producing goods will proceed twice as fast in a society twice as large.

I don't know of anyone who's spent more than a couple percentage points of their income on software. Food, shelter, and energy, on the other hand, generally make up more than half of all expenses.

Think about it this way - if there are twice as many people in the world, you will go from having 5 to 2.5 bathrooms. No big deal for you. Big deal for people who only got 1 bathroom.

I did a thread about this a couple years back. WHO said the population of the planet would peak around nine billion, then start to fall around mid-century. The U.S. pop will peak around 450 million

Course, the funides won't stopping breeding like it's going out of style, so eventually they'll overwhelm the rest of us and then start breedng the species into extinction again.

The both cause problems in different ways. The latter causes the econopmy to decline, the former the environment. Given that we need the environment more than we need the economy, deference should be given to the environment.

I'd like to see a much smaller population, but as I also want to see the immoratlity cure, I don't think we'll see the former. Maybe we should limit the immoratilty cure to people who haven't had and will not have natural children.
