    * In December, 1999, that every school pupil, student, soldier and military officer in Turkmenistan is to be presented on New Year's Eve with a watch bearing the picture of President Saparmurat Niyazov

    * In April, 2001, banning ballet and opera, describing them as "Not a part of Turkmen culture"

    * In 2001, forbidding young men to wear long hair or beards

    * In June 2001, requiring foreigners wishing to marry a Turkmen national to pay a $50,000 fee.

    * In 2002, renaming bread from chorek, the traditional Turkmen word, to Gurbansoltan edzhe after his mother

    * In August 2002, redefining the stages of life, with adolescence extending to 25 and old age beginning at 85 (detailed below)

    * In 2004, insisting that all licensed drivers pass a morality test

    * In March 2004, dismissing 15,000 public health workers in wide-ranging cuts that particularly targeted nurses, midwives, school health visitors and orderlies[1]

    * In April 2004, urging young people not to get gold tooth caps or gold teeth, suggesting instead that they chew on bones to preserve their teeth[2]

    * In February 2005, ordering the closure of all hospitals outside Ashgabat, saying that if people were ill, they could come to the capital; also ordering the closure of all rural libraries of Turkmenistan, saying that ordinary Turkmens do not read books anyway[3]

    * In November 2005, ordering that physicians swear an oath to himself instead of the Hippocratic Oath

    * In December 2005, banning video games, stating that they were too violent for young Turkmen to play

Looks like he played GTA to much:
"Poor people stop complaining, start living. You can't take your money with you when you die, even I can't. Instead of comlaining of being poor, enjoy it - watch TV, don't vote, who cares?
    - But, I'm homeless!!!
    - You got it all wrong! The society doesn't owe you anything. The government have ather things to worry about. Like killing innocent people!!!

      All praise the Turkmen-Bashi.

I love the story that the book he wrote has to be regarded at the same level as the Quran. When the last great-mufti refused to have the walls of the main mosque plasted with words from the Bashi's holy book, he was thrown into jail (where he still rots). The new mufti had no objections.

Once a year, the Bshi offers the Turkmen parliament his resignment, which in turn is responded under tears with outraged protests by the parlamentarians until the Bashi listens to the desperate wish of his people.

But I will stop my praise now for it must be terrible to live under the dictatorship of such a paranoic. But also, honestly, if I were dictator, I would make quite a few things like Niyazov - all those "little laws" stemming from gut-feeling. I love the make up ban! I would throw dog owners for years into jail if they let their dogs **** on the sidewalk etc.

Is he by any chance a puppet of Moscow? It seems that the Russians have been very adept at convincing those former Soviet states which have luscious energy reserves to allow Russia to reap the lion's share out of the exploitation of their resources.

He is a puppet of nobody. Any Russian who had the opportunity escaped the country long time ago. The guy is a real dictator.

Sounds like bullsh!t, if you ask me.

Aside you, who needs to invade countries to maintain their energy supply, we have so many energy resources at our own territory that we can't deal with the one we already have here in Russia. So convincing anyone to share with their energy is not our priority. What we are seeking is investments to develop our own energy resources.

I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.
