        We were both slightly off.

I remember 9/11 very well, probably better than you given my geographic location. Hell, I regularly walk by the gapping hole of ground zero as I now work in that area, so I have weekly reminders.... and yet what the **** does the Patriot act have to do with it?

The laws that existed and the procedures that existed prior to 9/11 , if executed well, would have stopped the attack.

So I miss your point entirely.

Or on the other side of Sir GePap, the laws that exist now, or then, or whatever, won't stop a small group, not to mention a large one, from getting through ... eventually.

How many attacks did we stop before this one got through?

I don't like that logic, it falls under the pefect solution fallacy.

                    1. Proposed solution S does not fully solve problem P
                    2. Therefore S should not be implemented

It fails to recognise the degree to which a proposed solution is useful to solving the overall problem.

Gepaps' comment does not suffer that logical problem.

I never opposed the patriot act as I didn't see it as removing our liberties. However, we can't be certain that it is primarily responsible for the total lack of success the terrorists have had in making major attacks within the US. This rejection may allow us to see if the patriot act was making a decisive difference.

Dis is right. Car accidents kill over 50,000 people a year. That's 10 times the number of 9-11 every year.

                            That's like 9-11 times 10!

Why NSL's and Section 215 enshrined in the Conference Committee's version of the Patriot Act can be a problem:

NEW BEDFORD -- A senior at UMass Dartmouth was visited by federal agents two months ago, after he requested a copy of Mao Tse-Tung's tome on Communism called "The Little Red Book."
Two history professors at UMass Dartmouth, Brian Glyn Williams and Robert Pontbriand, said the student told them he requested the book through the UMass Dartmouth library's interlibrary loan program.
The student, who was completing a research paper on Communism for Professor Pontbriand's class on fascism and totalitarianism, filled out a form for the request, leaving his name, address, phone number and Social Security number. He was later visited at his parents' home in New Bedford by two agents of the Department of Homeland Security, the professors said.

And yes, Russ Feingold is badazz.
"Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way. "
