            • State Parliament is being recalled.

              THE CLAMPDOWN

Police will get the power to:

              - search all vehicles and people entering an area.

              - shut down pubs and bottle shops in a riot.

              - declare temporary alcohol-free zones.

              - confiscate cars of those involved in disorder.

Presumption of bail for riot, affray and violent disorder will be removed.

Maximum terms for riot and affray will now be 15 years.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, its relatively easy for the Police to shut down the Shire, which they are now doing. Its surrounded on all sides by water, the Georges River to the North, which connects to the rest of Sydney (3 bridges), the Woronora river to the West (1 bridge, one road), Port Hacking to the South (no bridges, one road) and the ocean, which caused all the trouble, to the East

              • Here's a map of the Sutherland Shire. That area to the South West is mostly bush, a national park and a military base, only 2 roads in that way. Very easy to block.

Cronulla is at the Southern end of the big bay on the ocean. Its a tiny headland. I grew up on the river on the Norther boundary.

215,000 people live in the Shire.

It's candy. Surely there are more important things the NAACP could be boycotting. If the candy were shaped like a burning cross or a black man made of regular chocolate being dragged behind a truck made of white chocolate I could understand the outrage and would share it. - Drosedars

                    • Its always been known as the Shire. It is an enchanted place to be sure. A kind of real life paradise on earth. It was a great place to grow up, on the river, the beaches, the sunshine, lots of freedom. I had my own boat.

The inhabitants are not unlike the Hobbits in their inward culture and love for their area.

As the story says, the people of the shire don't like those who wander far. Most of my school friends still live there.

The name 'Cronulla' originated from the Aboriginal word 'Kurranulla', which means 'place of the pink seashells' (and occasional rioting over same).
