Today is Finland's special day.
Finland's freedom has not always been taken for granted, but it prevailed through times of danger with nothing short of a miracle.
Today we can celebrate this day free. The generation that fended off superior enemy is a case of best of men. Not only did they fill their duty, they also paid the bill afterwards, fully to the last penny. Before the war the country was small, not very known, and behind from the West. After battling for years and working to pay the bill afterwards this generation continued to work, raising our nation truly to one of the richest ones, safest ones and all in all made a great place for their children to grow and continue that legacy. It is still small, but the seed of success planted by our grandfathers continues to give us.
Not only that, after the war the veterans were disrespected and blamed. Those stupid people forget that they were able to disrespect them because they were free, and they were disrespeting their own fathers. As if they had a choice.
The veterans didn't raise to the barricades. They stayed quiet, they didn't start deviding the country on this issue. The respect they deserve is due and today it is given in some proportions. The veterans waited all this time, being submitted. Let's not forget what veteran in here means. It means virtually EVERYONE alive then. They took the crap for decades while their brothers were dying later on, never getting any respect in their times of life.
And today, they march proudly and don't hold some people responsible for their actions and words during the times of traitorism.
Remarkable generation, who paid the price time and again so that we can know do what we want and live like we want. This can never be paid back to them. But they are not asking anything from us, except to keep living free and being ourselves, and continuing the legacy in the future. They did it for free.
