      Space is a lot like Kansas.
      No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

        Egghead fight! Egghead fight!

        So, on a more serious note, where do quantum realities fit into the equation?

          There's only one damn egghead here. Vesayen is, as usual, talking out of his ass.

          I just get to be the lucky bastard who catches him talking out of his ass on the subject which I'm doing my PhD in...

            Nonetheless, it was quite entertaining while it lasted. Too bad I burned my popcorn.

                Ah. That would be interesting, if they could create some sort of experimental evidence to back that up.

                But quasars are not even the best proof for Big-Bang theory. CMB is, as we've discussed....

                  Too late.

                  Now, where do other quantum realities fit into the equation? I've read that some in the scientific community believe they can't account for all the matter that's supposed to be "out there" because it's sitting in other quantum realities.

                  Heh. It's probably just Popular Science level stuff (my question, that is).

                    Yeah. If you do XD stuff then maybe you could explain CDM as sitting somewhere off from us on that dimension, thus having some sort of weirdly suppressed interaction cross-section. I don't know. It seems to me that the most obvious explanation for CDM is the simplest: particles which are more massive than neutrinos which froze out earlier.

                        XD = extra dimensions
                        CDM = cold dark matter

                          I tried to find the explanation for the CMB given by the quasi-steady staters, but the Discover article I read about them neglects to deal with that issue. Can't really check out their book either, given that the nearest decent English-language lending library is hours away at best. Sorry.

                                I am humbly enlightened.

                                I'm reading James P. Hogan's latest novel Mission to Minerva, which deals extensively with other realities/dimensions. He's a hard SF writer, and it shows ... damn hard to get into the book for the first third or so, but it's paying off more now as the characters are focused more on rather than the science.

                                The novel is the latest in a line that began with Inherit the Stars, Gentle Giants of Ganymede, Giants' Star, and Entoverse. Pretty interesting stuff, IMO.
