When there's a piece of trash like AoEIII floating around

    1) Upon first installation the game ****ed up its own entry in the registry, making it impossible to apply patch 1.01 to the game. Computer did not know that game was installed, so usual uninstall techniques do not work. Solution: delete all game folders by hand, pray that nothing else got ****ed up and reinstall

    2) Sound stops working after ~5 minutes of gameplay. Officially patch 1.01 fixes this. Unofficially it doesn't. Official solution to unofficial problem: turn off sound.

    3) Game randomly crashes to desktop. Average timescale 10 minutes. Solution: stop playing game.

Maybe I'll pick it up again in a year when they actually solve some of these issues.

AoE has always been behind the curve, it seems.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

It invariably happens that when people buy a game and run into bugs, they proclaim it as the buggiest game ever! That's exactly what happened with CivIV. I wonder if they've ever played Ultima IX or... well, most other games.

I had few if any crashes in v1.0 while I tend to get about 1 crash per 2-3 hours of game play with v1.09. There are upsides to v1.09 though since there is less lag, the AI seems to be smarter, and MP has way fewer out of sync messages. I'd like to see the crashes fixed (since I didn't have them in v1.0) and I'd like to see a few MP tweeks like a kick player button so the host can bump the out of sync player who just won't leave but the game isn't that bad bug wise. It could be better but it could also be a lot worse.

What really amazes me are people who say that Civ4 i buggier than Civ3 was on release. Have they been abducted by scientologists and had their memories cleaned in the meantime, or what?
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

It certainly wasn't buggier than Civ3: play the world. Where multiplayer didn't even work off the shelf. And that was the whole point of the expansion pack!

KrazyHorse, to fix the sound problem:

One of the sound files is corrupt, you just have to delete that file or rename it.

I can't remember the name of the file sorry, do a search on +"Age of Empires III" +Corrupt +Sound

I don't base software use decisions solely on the name of the company that puts out the software. Especially not when it comes to a company as enormous as MS.

AoEIII was released, according to my experience, as a buggy piece of ****. It will probably get better as it gets patched. That doesn't mean that all MS programs are ****.

I never had a problem with Civ 3 from the start. But on Civ 4, crashes every time I play it.
