If this is the kind of thing you're after, I'll root out some instructions too....

She sent me a picture of what my name looked like, and all of the letters in her name are in mine.

Wow... I remember doing the really cheap versions of those when I was like 10 or something (I only knew how to make lizards). Assuming I could put letters in there, that's perfect.

          So... a stripy colourful lizard?

That could be cute... and it has a real connection with you too.

No, I think I'm going to do the idea in the OP, with these things.

Hrmmmm..... the instructions are proving elusive... it looks like I might have to scan my mum's books and translate them...

I've been searching for ages, but mostly only managed to find sites of people selling stuff... and asian pron.

There are plenty of english instructions, but the designs on them are poopy. Except for maybe this one:-
Make a three-strand floating illusion necklace using crimp beads and a few tools.

I think this could probably be made with the fishing line too, if you can't find that thin metal wire that they use.

Ok, here are some instructions for a pretty bracelet which should be simple enough to make. No clasp, but that should be simple enough to adapt.

4mm crystal beads - This is adapted from a star pendant design so I'm not sure about the numbers. I'd say around 70 or 80 beads, though I could be completely wrong.

fishing line ~ 120cm Again, I could be wrong, but you'll definitely need some excess.

                1) Create a loop of 4 beads in the middle of your line, so that the two ends of the line cross at the fourth bead. (No 2 in that picture.)

                2) Thread a bead to both sides of the fishing line, and cross the thread again at the third bead.

                3) Continue like that until your string of beads is long enough to go round your girlfriend's wrist. Best not to make it too tight. When it's long enough, you should end on two loose beads on either side of your string, and crossing the ends at the very first bead you did, completing the band.

                4) Ignore the 4th picture.

For extra security take your string ends and continue looping them through all the first beads you did before so that you practically come full circle again. When you think you've done enough, tie a knot with the loose ends around the existing line. Snip off any excess very carefully.

                Finished.

This is essentially the basic design, you can experiment and make variations to make it more interesting.

What might be nice is the central beads where the line crosses over could be larger and brightly coloured (according to her name) whilst the outer beads could be a clear uncoloured crystal. Although if the central beads are much bigger, you may find that you need more of the outer beads so that it fills the gap between the big beads more nicely.

Let me know if this is what you're after.

I'd really like to see a picture of your finished product.

Hmmmm.... actually, I've just remembered that you wanted a necklace... Well, as mentioned, this is easily adapted, but I'll look for necklace designs tomorrow.

Wow, I never thought I'd see a thread on making necklaces here in the OTF.

This would make a pretty choker, although bear in mind that not everyone can pull-off wearing chokers, I certainly couldn't. If your girlf has a long elegant neck, then this might not be a bad idea.
