Merkel was elected with 397 out of 612 votes; This means at least 51 members of the new governing coalition did not support her.

Whether Germany will profit from the new "Chancellorette" is yet to be seen, but it seems to be a step towards pragmatism, leaving the showbusiness-politics behind.

I was a bit disappointed to not find a thread about this four hours after the formal elections... Poly hasn´t been that slow when the topic was soccer...
