One thing that i'm glad about is that not many people have guns here, or in the neighbouring countries. I don't like the idea of everyone walking around with guns.

Whats with all the "French are wimps" nonsense anyway? Napoleon lost because he got the rest of Europe attacking him. France last in 1870 because Bismark was a brilliant diplomat. They fell quickly to Hitler because they were still exausted from WWI. Bad luck does not = wussiness.Comment

Odin, it's because of De Gaulle, and his inability to be america's complete ***** post WWII. Americans loved france before that. Then you people have gotten the idea that the whole world owes you, like you weren't fighting for your own benefit and safety, just as well as for others.Comment

Ask any American and they won't mention a thing about De Gaulle but they will mention doughboys and GI Joe. From our point of view, it's as if we had to come over twice to remove Germans from French soil. That's where the "belief" comes from.
Now I disagree with the sentiment, of course, but to say it stems from our (mis)understanding of De Gaulle's post WW2 objectives is patently ignorant of a true American perspective.Comment
