  • Asbestosis - The True Killer of 9/11?

I was reminded about the twin towers in another thread and it occurred to me that they were built pretty much during the height of when Asbestos was considered the new wonder building material.

I found a link about it and it makes for some worrying reading...

Does anyone know anything more about this as I've just had to do some research on asbestosis and it is not a pretty way to go...
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

No, the terrorists were pretty much the true killers.

Very true. Much worse than the perception of a burning collapsing twin towers, with people jumping out windows.

Seriously, it is bad. All buildings should be stripped of it.
Lining with it was awful. Get in the pores.

Insofar as they set off the chain of events, yes...

However people won't know if they have been exposed to a lethal dose of asbestos for 15-20 years and it is invariably fatal. So the question is, was asbestos prevalent as dust in the atmosphere in lethal doses when you consider 5,000 tons of the stuff war blown up in a fairly concentrated area?

              MOBIUS, you're a long-time crack user, aren't you?

Well, the leading cause of asbestos related illnesses are caused by asbestos removal efforts so you likely have a point.

Thing is: what do you reasonably expect anybody to do about it? Sue the bombers?

Asbestos is very fire retardant so you have to have that into consideration, if it held off the collapse of the towers for a while then it saved lives. However, everyone who was around the wreckage should probably stop smoking.

Quite the irony that fact, don't you think...

                        Why does asbestos hate freedom?
It's candy. Surely there are more important things the NAACP could be boycotting. If the candy were shaped like a burning cross or a black man made of regular chocolate being dragged behind a truck made of white chocolate I could understand the outrage and would share it. - Drosedars
