  • Yay for unions!

So I'm a salaried employee but we're currently doing enviromental testing (meaning we're charactorizing the soil, soil gas, and ground water pollution for a huge new underground main powerline which the local utility is putting in to connect their new powerplant to the rest of the local grid. The cool thing is the local utilities are all union jobs with union contracts who insist that anyone who works on their jobs get paid the "prevailing wage" (meaning the standard union wage). I thought I was paid pretty good but under the union rules since I'm a geologist I'm officially a "technical specialist" whom my employer must agree to pay an additional check besides my normal salary if they want me to work on a union site. BAWHAHAHAHAHA!

    Life is good. :smoke:

I've got some friends who work in the movie business in LA, which is (to its competitive detriment) heavily unionized. When they work all night (usually on a film which is behind shedule or a location that is available for a very limited time) they call it "free car night". And it isn't that much of an exageration.
