  • So...anyone know about laptops?

Well, I'm probably getting a laptop within the next few weeks, but I don't know which are the good brands, the bad ones, the mediocre, and what speed I should get.
I would like to use it for:
    1) Word/Office/etc.
    2) Games. Shiny, shiny games. Can laptops run the newest games nowadays? Civ4, for example?
    3) Must be a PC. No Macs for me.
I guess most laptops can do all of that actually, so what I'm really asking here is what are the most reliable brands, the best buys, etc. Thanks!
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

Get Anus brand laptops. The black ones are the best.

          resellerratings.com

look at powernotebooks.com, they have a very high rating, especially when compared to dell, hp, gateway, etc

          if not a powernotebook.com, then a toshiba

if you do get one from the site, make sure you have access to programs such was xp pro, ms office, etc.
that will bring down the price

              Can you spare 4,000 dollars?

Otherwise, Toshiba is your best bet here. It has a wide range of multimedia notebooks.

Toshiba used to be one of the best brands though I haven't looked at lap tops in years.

Zevico, there are plenty of laptop advice threads already. Just do a search.

I can vouch for Toshiba! Had one for years and its very reliable. You get a lot of bang for the buck, too!

Don't get a Dell. A friend of mine got one and he isn't satisfied. And I hear that more and more.

And don't get a IBM/Lenevo Thinkpad. They're expensive for nothing. And its seems they're not very reliable.

And don't get a Averatec. They're crap, pure and simple. A friend of mine asked me: what should I buy? I told him: a Toshiba. The cheap bastard got an Averated instead. And now the paint is peeling of the laptop. Yes, the laptop's color was painted on the plastic!

                        - Get a Pentium-M, they're less noisy
                        - For games, get a laptop with a Nvidia or ATI card.

My Dell laptop has done everything I've wanted it to do... except play Civ 4. I'm quite satisfied with it... except for that last part.
