  • Quick computer question: Video RAM

I suck at computers. How do I tell how much "video RAM" I have? I'm messing with the render buffer size on one of my myriad games.

Right click on My Computer, Properties, General tab.

Eh? That's just a shortcut, no video RAM that I can see...

Desktop, right-click, properties, last tab... should be there somewhere (depending on what graphic card you have).

I'm probably wrong, but I'm under the impression that RAM is RAM.
Going that path, to that tab should show:

            System:
            Registered To:
Computer <------ Will say what processor and how much RAM.

Yeah, I think that's the problem, Sloww - video RAM, I think, is not just regular RAM. My video RAM, I found, is 16 whatevers.

                  Cyclo,

Do you have a dedicated video card or is it shared? If it's shared you can take RAM from the main system and allocate it to the video. If it's dedicated then you are stuck.

You'll have to tell me how I can determine that before I can tell you

I'm trying to boost the framerate on Mount&Blade; it always goes down when rendering a lot of people, and I found in its open config files a place to increase the render buffer. It says, however, that different settings are recommended based on how much video RAM you have - I increased it somewhat, but if I could be more video RAM somehow that would be useful.

Well, in the display properties screen, it should also say which graphics card you have.
