Short samples of the songs from "Nordland I". And you get to hear Quorthon's opera-schooled voice
But I love his voice anyway, couldn't imagine any other singer for this music
The enemy cannot push a button if you disable his hand.

@Cyclotron, and you've also got the two songs linked in that first post i did - it will play the song on your media player/quicktime/whatever you have installed.

Those Nordland samples give the other side of the viking music equation - the two tracks i pointed to are the quiet, atmospheric part of what i love about most bathory songs. Then just as your chilling to the sound of the wind or something, he'll crunch you with great power chords! Its a style that works really well imho

It was a play on words. Mad Viking understands my humor.
That might be bad for him, I'm not sure.

i know - i was playing innocent that you wouldn't be taking it seriously still Bathory does the best viking horns you'l ever hear(short of going to scandinavia and finding some vikings to blow their horns for you..........that sounds wrong!)

And Mead.......well man i can drink mead untill the cows come home. The difficulty is finding some. I have to travel from London to either Devon(some monks make it at a local abbey) or Wales(there has been a small resurgence in the ammount of welsh mead makers over the last 5 years or so) to get some. no where in London sells the stuff, and i've asked around alot - usualy to get a weird look of incomprehension!

I never thought it was that hard to get - a friend of mine at college brews it in his room.

I think the Nordland CDs are really good, creates an atmosphere that makes you wanna drink lots of beer!
"Vinterblot" is easily one of the best songs he ever made
I listened to them last night - and out of the two i think i like Nordland I much better. And Vinterbolt is very good - the vocals combined with those dynamic punchy power chords he does makes it one of the best on the Album.

Still i think i would have liked more of the calm stuff, like ring of gold - for me thats where Quorthorn was different from just about anyone else.

Untill last week, when i'd done a bit of research, i'd never known that he'd influenced so many other bands - but it could explain why i like Metallica and the smashing pumkins too!

EDIT: the musical link Combat Ingrid gave is from the Nordland albums, and is MUCH heavier than the two links i gave at the top. So if anyone suffered bleeding ear syndrom......well you can sooth it with 'Song to hall up high'

Bathory does that - soothes then hits you, and it can work really well.
I always used to listen to him before playing contact sports
