Hmmm. Apparently not, as the Act of Union with Ireland had not yet taken place (1800) So it would actually have been the Kingdom of Great Britain. Or the Former Kingdoms of England, and Scotland, if you prefer. FKGBCOV?

its known more for that, than for, say, its stance on EU integration, on brining Turkey into the EU, its concerns about Putin, its position on Iraq, etc, etc. I find it really hard to fathom that, and suspect the source may have its own obsession.
Yeah, prior to this thread I never heard anyone say Czechs had an obsession with Cuba. More likely the original author has an obsession with Cuba.

When I was in Prague, I was struck by how tall everyone was. At 1.778 meters tall (5 feet 10 inches), I felt short.

It was known as the UK after the first Act of Union with Scotland in 1707.

does Greece refer to the Republic of Macedonia as the FSFRYROM - the Former Social Federal Republic of Yugoslavia Republic of Macedonia? No, they dont, they call it the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, even though there was no country formally called Yugoslavia at the time that Macedonia was a component republic.

Im not sure if KH is right - Wiki seems to contradict him - but even if hes not I can call the Kingdom of Great Britain the United Kingdom, just as Greeks call the Federal Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia, simply Yugoslavia.

On most matters, I would personally advise people to rise above the standard set by Greeks.

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that (even though the official title might have been GB) England+Scotland were at least colloquially known as the UK

Czechs have aggressively adopted the cliché that a convert to Catholicism will tolerate none of the slack frequently found in the behavior of born members of the faith.
huh? Why to mention catholicism here?

                        • Czech officials can neither forgive nor ever forgot Cuba’s inexcusable conduct regarding the Prague Spring in 1968, but that tragic event – when Soviet troops invaded Czechoslovakia – is long gone and it’s time to put diplomacy to work in order to achieve democratization.
Forgive my ignorance, but what precisesly was Cuba's inexcusable conduct?
