  • Going to Amsterdam. Sightseeing suggestions anyone?

    Hi all,

Yet another travel thread by moi . This time my itinerary is a 3 day excursion to Amsterdam, so I'd like to try and pack in as much as possible of the important sights.

At the moment I'm definitely hitting Anne Frank's House, the Dutch History Museum, the Van Gogh Museum and the Heineken Experience. Any other suggestions would be appreciated; not just major tourist landmarks but locations off the beaten trail that might be worth a look. Also good, cheap restaurants and good nightclubs.

By the way, if any of you have a particular prostitute in the redlight district whose services you recommend, let me know. Kidding.

Here's a recommendation maybe not a lot of people know. There's a sort of "left culture" club in Amsterdam. Or out of the comformity thinking club (financed by the state ) It's a rather nice building a bit out of the ordinary where all the "culture" people meet and discuss stuff. Anyway, it has a nice caffe and great food (I don't know about the prices, that was taken care of ) Plus you'll get a detailed list of interesting happenings in the city.

Now what was the name... bElh... something I don't remember. And they say greek is difficult. But if you ask they'll know maybe.

Anyway ask for a very big round blue glass house of vitros where the "inteligenzia" of amsterdam duels. That should do it. There are also shows there sometimes. Lots of cute dutch girls too if I may add.
If you want to drink it's at the level floor. If you want to eat (and a wide variety of different and not so ordinary great tasting foods) it's on the first floor with a nice view of the city.

Sounds very cool. Should I dress in black and wear a beret?

I think Amsterdam is an incredibly dull city. Everything looks the same. Whole streets with similar and sometimes even *identical* buildings. From centre to suburbs.

I think there are places called Club Rossa and the Banana Bar. On the other hand, I really liked Rembrandt's house. The Rijk's Museum is a bit disappointing now because it is under renovation and most of it is closed.
