N.D. City Council Cancels Male Dance Show

JAMESTOWN, N.D. -- An official with Australia's "Thunder from Down Under" male revue called cancellation of a scheduled North Dakota performance following protests from religious leaders a shocking form of censorship.

"With all due respect to the (Jamestown) Ministerial Association, no one is being forced to buy a ticket or see the show," Penny Levin, a spokeswoman for the show, said Friday. "But now people are being forced to not see the show.

"We're not a bunch of heathens roaming through."

The mayor and two city council members voted late Thursday to terminate the contract, after the Ministerial Association presented a petition protesting what pastors called a strip show.

Earlier, a Jamestown Civic Center sponsor sent an e-mail to the city administrator questioning having its logo associated with "pornography."

Rev. Randy Jaspers, of Temple Baptist Church, called the show "the absolute wrong thing for Jamestown to bring in."

Lori Anderson, Civic Center manager, acknowledged dancers were "going to shed some clothes." But she said she was surprised by the reaction. The show had been scheduled for next Thursday.

One council member who opposed the cancellation noted the Ministerial Association did not oppose a recent Ultimate Fighting show featuring what the councilman called "guys trying to beat each other's brains out."

what's wrong with wanting to maintain some degree of civility on a game server?

It's a combat game of violence and death and they're worried about foul language. Comes off as a bit hypocritical and pedantic. Besides, little children shouldn't be playing this game anyway, so why treat the of-age players like they're 5-yrs-old? I don't care either way (their servers, their rules), but it's stupid and a waste of time and money for anyone enforcing such silliness.

Just like this ministerial association. I don't much care for either kind of show, but putting on a hissy fit over nudity while letting bloodsports pass on by with nary a peep is total horsepucky.

If I'm playing a game I don't want to hear some whiner spewing out some stream of obscenities for the entire match.

luckily though most games I have I can personally mute such people.

Die isn't a curseword. For whatever reason there is a certain additional force or meaning or whatever to cursewords, established and perpetuated by society, and which I suspect is due in some part to biological hardwiring. I don't see the point of making a big fuss over it.

mixed martial arts (proper term for it) = serious sport where the best athletes compete against each other in all possible ways.
