With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Yeah, but there is likely to be 100 bloated subsidy sucking French farmers for every bloated subsidy sucking Norweigen farmer.

I still don't see why would EU want Norway to join because of money, it may sound a lot of money, but since it is up to 1% of EU budget at most it is peanuts.

I suspect that that may work both ways round - at the moment I suspect that Norway has very little motivation to join the EU...

You're right that Norway wouldn't be a new Gernmany/France/UK when it comes to resources but seeings how all the other prospective members (Turkey, Ukrane, etc) would be net money takers it has to help lighten the load a little to get a new net contributor. I believe Norway and Switzerland are the only remaining possibilities to get a net contributor.

Of course if the EU would reform CAP and get the US & Japan to agree to slash or eliminate farm subsidies then a very sizable chunk of the EU's budget could be freed up for development aid (new roads, new rail lines, new schools, etc) and still provide a decent reduction in the over all tax rate. That would help the EU as a whole and stop the unfair impoverishment of the rest of the world's farmers.

Why would we beg Norway to join? They already make most EU law into domestic law anyway. They're a member in all but name, just one that through lack of actual membership denies itself voting rights.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.
                -Richard Dawkins
