Glass is very easy to recycle -- just melt it.

So how does degredation factor into the melting process?

As Che suggested; you're not going to get an +A quality 5 m2 pane of glass out of recycling a broken, albeit +A quality, 5m2 pane.

Glass seems to be more like metal than plastic and rubber when it comes to recycling. There is no difference between recycled aluminium and that you get from smelting ore. Plastic and rubber are large molecules that degrade.
